In the last week I have been working on a signature track for the upcoming movie Back Slashers. Directed by British director Tim Cowley, this social networking horror movie deals with the story of Becca, a girl with an addiction for blogging and everything internet. Attracted by the possibility to generate fast cash, she starts selling adult toys on the web. When a seemingly unconnected string of murders happens, the only thing that ties them together appears to be Becca’s online friends list. In the end Becca discovers the chilling secret behind the murders and the connection to her social networks.

Back Slasher is special in a number of ways. It is a no-budget movie in the tradition of Blair Witch and Paranormal Activity. It’s raw and it’s in your face. At the same time it has a message for everybody out there who spends a lot of time on social network sites like Facebook, Twitter – you name them. Yours truly is as guilty of that as the next guy. The movie will be released in the course of next year in the US, Canada and Europe.

The song I wrote for this movie is called “Kill my Darlings”. It’s a mid-tempo spooky haunting song. At this stage we’re still considering what the best time is to release this song as a single.

Back Slasher is not the only movie I am involved with at the moment. In January, filming starts for a great British production, involving some very well known actors. For this movie I will not only write the title song, but I will actually play a cameo role.
Afgelopen week heb ik gewerkt aan de titelsong voor de film Back Slasher. Deze nieuwe horrorproduktie van de Britse regisseur Tim Cowley gaat over sociale netwerken. Becca, een meisje dat verslaafd is aan haar blog en sociale netwerksites probeert snel geld te verdienen door seksspeeltjes te verkopen op internet. Als een serie gruwelijke moorden plaastvindt is het enige wat hen verbindt Becca’s online vriendenlijst. Gedurende de film ontdekt Becca het verschrikkelijke geheim wat de moorden samenbrengt in haar vriendenlijst.

Back Slasher is om een aantal redenen een speciale film. Het is een no-budget film in de traditie van Blair Witch of Paranormal Activity die nu in de bioscoop draait. Het is een rauwe, in-je-gezicht film. De film heeft tegelijkertijd een boodschap voor iedereen die (zoals ikzelf) veel tijd doorbrengt op het internet en sociale netwerksites als Facebook, Hyves, Twitter en noem maar op. De film wordt begin volgend jaar uitgebracht in Amerika, Canada en Europa.

De song die ik heb geschreven voor deze film heet “Kill your Darlings”. Het is een mid-tempo, spookachtig nummer geworden met volgens de regisseur een hauntingly beautiful melodie. We zijn nog aan het kijken wat het beste moment is om deze song als single uit te brengen.

Back Slasher is niet de enige film waar ik bij betrokken ben op dit moment. In januari beginnen de opnames van een prachtige Britse produktie waarbij een aantal hele bekende acteurs betrokken zijn, o.a. uit de Harry Potter films. Ik mag nog niet te veel zeggen over deze film maar wel dat ik naast het schrijven van de titelsong ook een klein gastrolletje zal spelen.
